Motorcycle Overview
The Mitsubishi Silver Pigeon was a series of motor scooters created by Mitsubishi Heavy industries from 1946 to 1963. With a need for cheap inexpensive transportation in a recovering post-war Japan, Mitsubishi was quick to launch production of the Silver Pigeon scooter at its Nagoya Works factory. The name is a reference to a dove, a symbol of peace. In 1947 Mitsubishi started exporting its scooters to the USA, with Montgomery Ward as their main distributor under the Riverside brand, although Sears sold more using the Mitsubishi name, despite the prejudice against Japanese products at the time. Over 400,000 Silver Pigeons were manufactured in Japan and roughly 35,000 were exported to the USA. CONDITION: This is believed to be a 1963 Rockford Silver Pigeon C83 193CC side valve single-cylinder motor. Believed to be a older restoration with some minor paint touch-ups. Motor turns over with compression and scooter roles freely. Tires show minor oxidation but still hold air. Leather seats are still soft and pliable, but could use some minor cleanup and conditioning. Several panel trim pieces have weathered and cracked with age. Sold as-is with no warranty.
