Motorcycle Overview
1971 Honda CB450
VIN: CB450E-4117380
9,665 Original Miles!
Honda made a forceful statement to the motorcycle industry with the debut of its dual overhead cam electric start CB450 in 1965. A mid-sized bike that could run with the larger displacement British twins, it was at once more sophisticated and reliable than anything that Britannia had to offer. The second generation 450 that came out four years later had updates that included replacement of the 4 speed transmission, drum brakes, and the 60's style chrome and black gas tank with a 5 speed gearbox, a modern disc brake up front, and a sleeker tank with modern graphics.
The 1971 model shown here was purchased by the current owner in 2005 with the odometer showing just under 9,000 miles. It is an all original unmolested example, with its candy gold paint and other cosmetics showing only the minor patina of its 55 year heritage. As the left side cylinder exhibited a tendency to smoke, the engine received a new top end rebuild and the carbs were cleaned at 9,285 miles. It was ridden occasionally after that, and at 9,700 miles the bike received a final complete service before being pickled and put into storage. (All maintenance and repair documents furnished with sale.)
