Motorcycle Overview
1976 BMW R90-6 For consignment, a 1976 BMW R90-6 showing 3,538 miles but true mileage is unknown. In recent years, this one has been owned by collectors and was driven very little, if at all. Its a remarkably well kept example from the Bicentennial year and a must for your collection and enjoyment if youre missing this particular slash six. Exterior This beauty is painted Monza Blue which covers the gas tank, battery cover, and fenders, and is enhanced with a double white pinstripe on all but the cover. Distinctive knee pads protect the sides of the tank and provide a fine contrast along with the other black parts including the double vinyl seat, the dust covers on the forks, and of course, the BMW logo. The encased inner engine components allow space for a full sized metal emblem with the embossed model number. Chrome exhaust pipes are beautifully shaped and ascend from the engine, visually picking up on the polished rear shocks and grab bar on the seat. Chrome wire wheels bookend the bike and a trio of round reflectors accompany the tail light and amber turn signals in the back for a colorful show of safety parts. The single headlight is big and vertical amber reflectors on the forks help with visibility and add more amber features to the front turn signals. Functionality Warning lights are flanked by two gauges, the speedometer and tachometer and each of those have built in indicators for more relayed information. Theres a little bit of fading and patina on the switchgear but overall, its clean and intact. The tapered handles are comfortable and the flared inside ends fit like a glove, all at the end of a streamline handlebar. Footpegs are rubber coated, high, and comfortable, while the passenger ped fold upright when not in use. Drivetrain The 898cc air cooled, two valves per cylinder, horizontally opposed twin engine produces 60 horsepower and is fueled by dual 1-barrel Bing carburetors. It has a 5-speed manual transmission that spins the back wheels via a shaft drive. A telescopic fork handles suspension in the front and swing arm suspension is provided in the back. Disc brakes are utilized in the front and drum in the rear. Only 21,097 R90-6 BMWs were produced between 1974 and 1976.
