Motorcycle Overview

1979 Honda CBX

VIN:  CB12015106

CBX: Those 3 letters are instantly recognized by Honda enthusiasts everywhere.

In 1969 Honda revolutionized the motorcycle industry with their CB750, a technical marvel that sank the entire British industry and left Harley Davidson floundering on the ropes and begging Congress for protective tariffs.  At the same time, however, it also ignited fierce competition from the other major Japanese manufacturers, who each came out with models as good or better than Honda's iconic 1969 offering.

So, in 1979, Honda introduced the CBX, a motorcycle that again represented a leap above the rest of the industry in sophistication and technology.  A road going version of their world championship Grand Prix factory racers, the CBX featured a 1050cc 24 valve dual overhead cam six cylinder motor and 5 speed trans that made it the first production motorcycle capable of eleven second quarter mile times fresh out of the crate.  Probably the most collectible of the Japanese classics, no collection is complete without one.

The first year example you see here is an unmolested all original in excellent condition, including its Perseus Silver paint, with low miles.  Originally sold in Canada, the speedometer is marked in both KPH and MPH increments, and the odometer readout is in kilometers.  It was purchased by the current owner in 2010 with 19,400 kilometers (12,055 miles) showing on the odometer.  A comprehensive service was then performed to insure that all mechanical and electrical systems and components were operating correctly.  New tires were installed in 2015, at 20,00 kilometers (12,500 miles), and the bike has been carefully maintained and sparingly ridden since.  The odometer currently shows 20,566 kilometers (12,779 miles).

THIS MOTORCYCLE TO BE COLLECTED FROM HELENA, MONTANA.

The Motorcycle has been consigned to the Classic Motorcycle Online Auction hosted by the Classic Car Auction Group.  The auction is Saturday, May 9, 2026, with online bidding only.  To consign your motorcycle and/or to register to bid on this and other bikes in the auction go to http://www.classiccarauction.us.
