Honda's CB700 Nighthawk S (aka, CB700SC) was one of the great middleweights of the Naked Bike era as it came to a close in the mid-80's.  It was fast (¼ mile in 12 seconds flat), handled well, comfortable to ride, stylish with its black-out engine and black chrome exhaust, and blessed with very low maintenance costs.  The motor was based on Honda's DOHC 4 valve per cylinder 750cc unit, de-stroked to 700ccs to avoid tariff fees, and made 80hp.  It was connected to a 6 speed transmission, that in turn was connected to a low maintenance shaft drive rear end.  Self adjusting hydraulic valves took a load off maintenance chores, as did an industry first spin on oil filter: A filter and a tire gauge were for the most part all the maintenance tools you needed for an extended trip.  Also provided was an oil cooler, air adjustable shocks, a hydraulically operated double disc-single disc setup fore and aft for effective braking, a hydraulic clutch for easier and more precise shifting, and a bikini headlight fairing and a comfortable riding position; all of which made for an outstanding all around middleweight motorcycle.

The 1985 example you see here was ridden for 1,600 miles by the original owner, who then put it into storage in 1988.  In 2008 it was purchased by the second owner, who cleaned the carbs, changed the fluids, installed a new set of tires, and rode it to Daytona for Bike Week.  It was then purchased by the current owner with the odometer showing 2,300 miles, at which point the bike was again serviced.  In 2015, at 2,800 miles, another set of tires was installed, and in 2016, at 2,900 miles, another major service was performed that included cleaning and applying a coat of Cream coat to the fuel tank and replacement of the fuel petcock.  The bike has been carefully maintained and sparingly ridden since, is in excellent original condition, and the odometer currently shows only 2,975 miles.
